The Canadian Centre for Child Protection and the City of Winnipeg – Partnering on program to reduce risk of child sexual exploitation
For Immediate Release
Winnipeg, MB: The Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Canadian Centre) is thrilled to be working with the City of Winnipeg on a first-of-its-kind, pilot project to enhance the protection of children within public pools, recreation and leisure facilities and libraries.
The initiative will be a multi-phased approach that combines the augmentation of current safety policies and reporting procedures, staff training and a public awareness campaign to inform the public about the issue of child sexual abuse.
Through the operation of Cybertip.ca – Canada’s national tipline to report the online sexual victimization and sexual abuse of children, the Canadian Centre recognizes that as technology continues to evolve, we face new risks and tactics used to sexually exploit children.
As part of the Canadian Centre’s Digital Agenda for Protecting Canada’s Youngest and Most Vulnerable Children, the Canadian Centre committed to creating a prevention kit for public facilities to help educate employees and patrons on how they can reduce the victimization of children through the misuse of technology within public environments.
The City of Winnipeg is taking proactive steps to create protective environments and is leading the country by becoming the first jurisdiction with an increased focus on preventing child sexual victimization in public facilities.
