Learning from survivors of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and their protective family members is crucial to understanding the gaps in supports and services. We have two surveys to help the world better understand the impacts of this crime and the challenges survivors and their families face.
International Survivors’ Survey
To better understand the impacts of survivors having their child sexual abuse recorded and/or distributed online, C3P first launched the International Survivors’ Survey in January 2016. We are running a shortened survey in 2021 to reach more survivors and continue to learn from their experiences.
Who is it for?
Survivors whose child sexual abuse was recorded
What does it do?
Over the course of a year and a half, 150 survivors from around the world completed the survey, providing C3P with important information about the unique challenges faced by survivors.
In September 2017, C3P released the first round of results, in which survivors voiced valuable information about their experiences to help us better serve Canadian families and children, as well as provide important recommendations for the services and organizations that intersect with survivors. Since then, an additional 100+ survivors have completed the survey. In 2021, we launched a shortened version to reduce the amount of time it takes for those who bravely come in and share their difficult stories.
How does it support child safety?
The survey is directly tied to Project Arachnid, which uses technology to reduce the online availability of child sexual abuse material around the world and help end the cycle of abuse. Project Arachnid offers psychological relief to survivors who, noted in the survey, have had no control over the ongoing sharing of their abuse.
This survey offers a medium in which survivors can be heard and empowered to move towards healing. As more survivors contribute to the survey, which remains open, the network of support grows and strengthens.

Survey For Protective Parents
Through an increased understanding of the experiences of survivors and their families, we can learn how to advance supports, resources, and programming for the countless individuals who have been affected by this crime, including those often closest to survivors.
Who is it for?
Primarily protective parents/guardians whose children experienced child sexual abuse that was recorded. Other family members impacted by the trauma are also welcome to complete the survey.
What does it do?
The survey asks about family members’ experiences in an effort to drive change for survivors and their families. It is also intended to increase the knowledge of stakeholders through sharing insights with law enforcement, child protection workers, lawyers, judges, educators, and mental health professionals.
How does it support child safety?
It is our greatest hope that with this information we may be able to help prevent abuse for other children in the future.
